Glasgow town guide

Glasgow is one of Britain's finest Victorian cities. As Scotland's largest city, it is one of the most vibrant and diverse. Glasgow is famously friendly, upfront and full of personality.

For the departing holidaymaker the location of Glasgow is a very definite plus, removing the need as it does for a lengthy drive fraught with potential traffic problems and hold-ups. How much more important that can be for the returning holidaymaker, who wants to be caught up in traffic jams at the end of a relaxing holiday.

For the visitor to Glasgow its proximity to the beautiful Trossachs and Loch Lomond mean that there is a never ending supply of beautiful places to visit outside of the city to add to its myriad charms.

The Cunard Shipping line was founded here and the first Police Force in the UK was started in Glasgow in 1778. The famous Cunard liners Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth and the QEII were all built on the River Clyde. There are over 30 art galleries and museums including the world famous Burrell Collection.

Glasgow has the largest retail centre in the U.K. Take a trip on the Clyde waterbus to Braehead Shopping Centre or the award winning Clydebuilt Maritime Museum.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh has many connections with the city, he was a truly original architect and designer, whose masterpiece is the Glasgow School of Art.
