Liverpool town guide
The Pierhead waterfront still dominated by the Cunard and Liver buildings, this is the city from where the Cunard-White Star liners used to sail to America.
The old dock warehouses now converted into the Albert Dock complex of shops, cafes, the Tait Northern art gallery and hotels.
There is a flourishing musical and artistic life in the city. The Walker Art Gallery near Lime Street Station and St Georges Hall house many important works, including a wonderful collection of Pre-Raphelite paintings.
Well known around the world as the birthplace of The Beatles, trips can be made to visit the re-creation of the Cavern Club and other places associated with John, Paul, George and Ringo. The National Trust has opened John Lennon's house to the public.
Home to two great cathedrals- one Anglican, the other Roman Catholic- and with two great football clubs-Liverpool and Everton - Liverpool has much to attract the visitor.
You can still take a "Ferry 'cross the Mersey" to the Wirral and Birkenhead, and the Mersey tunnels - both a road and railway tunnels-connect the two sides of the River Mersey.
