Stansted location guide
Stansted Airport takes its name from Stansted Mountfitchet, a small village just to the north east of the town of Bishops Stortford. The village is close to the junction of the M11 Motorway with the A120, which is also the junction for Stansted Airport.
Bishops Stortford first expanded with the coming of the railway in the nineteenth century and once again with the growing importance of Stansted Airport it is set for further expansion.
In spite of this Bishops Stortford remains a pleasant town with many open spaces and parks that reflect the undulating and gentle countryside that surrounds the town.
To the east of Stansted Airport lies Great Dunmow an interesting and ancient town with a history that stretches back as far its Celtic name implies.
For the visitor to the area probably the prettiest attraction will be the locations associated with the great English landscape painter, Constable. Many of these are still identifiable, although changed by the passing of the years.
